MPM, finished 12/2005. Another limited-series, not entirely trouble-free kit from MPM. Mörkö-Morane was a conversion on existing Morane Saulnier 406 aircraft that were in use by the Finnish Air Force. The most notable change was the installation of Soviet Klimov M-105P engine, which offered 1100 hp vs. 860 hp offered by original MS engine. As far as I know, the MPM kit is the only Mörkö-kit available in 1/48. It has some shape problems, for example the rear fuselage is a bit too short, and the bumps on wing guns are too wide. However, I didn't feel like correcting those, as the kit itself was a challenge enough for me. Kit plastic was very soft with some scratches, and assembly required quite much putty-filling and sanding. Some details were missing, and I replaced for example the gun barrels with metal tubing. The kit included some resin and photoetched parts, mainly for cockpit, and a vacuum-formed canopy. I was nervous about it, but in the end managed to cut, mask, paint and glue it without _too_ much trouble. Airbrushed the basic colours with Humbrol enamels, then applied a layer of Johnson's clear wax (aka Future), and after it added the kit-supplied decals. National insignias were provided in two parts (political correctness...), so the middle crosses required some extra adjustment. However, almost no silvering happened. Finished with flat varnish followed with some Mig pigments for engine exhausts etc. and chipping with silver pencil (still cannot make that look good, live and learn...). All in all, not the easiest kit to build, but it turned out nice enough. This kit too part in Model Expo 2006
